The Federation Council committees will hold a preliminary discussion regarding the candidacy on December 19. Mr. Klishas informed ТАСС that the Federation Council will address the appointment issue during the plenary session concluding the autumn session on December 20.

The Prosecutor General and their deputies are appointed after consultations with the Federation Council and can be dismissed by the president. The upper house of parliament must inform the head of state about the results of its review of the candidacy within one week from the date of receiving the nomination. The term of office for the Prosecutor General is five years. Igor Krasnov has been leading the Prosecutor's Office since January 22, 2020.
